What NYFW Means To Me

Vegan Leather Jumpsuit Overalls: BB Dakota // Long Sleeve Tee: Club Monaco (It also comes in short sleeve & I have it in 3 colors!) // Booties: Schutz // Crossbody Bag: Leatherology // Earrings: Bauble Bar // Sunglasses: Chelsea28 // Dainty Gold Choker: All the Wire

It’s that time of year again.

The fashionable girls & guys of America all make their way to NYC for all the nonsense that is “fashion week.” Whether you are a editor, a photographer, a blogger, a designer, or anyone who is directly affected by the retail industry, chances are you’ve had a conversation, or 2, about the goings-on of NYFW!

I have been attending off and on since September 2011, and boy oh boy, have things changed. I remember the first season I went….all starry eyed with the highest hopes & optimism about the week. It was a whirlwind and I was enthusiastic about ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING. Back then, there wasn’t a sea of bloggers fighting to see & be seen. We were few & far between, and some people still didn’t believe that we deserved a seat at the table. Fast forward 7 years and the pendulum and swung so far the other way. So how does this affect me? Well, it doesn’t….if you don’t let it.

My life will go on if I don’t attend NYFW, or I miss a party because I’m tired, or I choose to go to SoulCycle instead of a fashion show. I don’t expect people to bend over backwards for me, or give a shit about my blog. For the most part, I try to stay in my lane, work hard, & remember that all this could be taken away tomorrow. I recognize that my bottom line is to run a business that does 3 things: 1) Connects with the women who read my blog & follow me on social media, 2) Connects with brands that I believe in, and 3) Pays my bills. My bottom line has never been about how many shows I attend, or “OMG I AM SO BUSY WITH MEETINGS,” or how many followers I have. It’s a business that is truly built on my love of fashion & beauty, paired with readers who love it, too.

And NYFW, well, it’s just an added bonus.

“OMG I’m so busy with meetings”. Preach! I get so tired of seeing that🙄. I’ve never been to NYFW, but I’ve always wanted to go! My favorite of your coverage was last year (2 years ago?) when you did the vlog of it. Keep hustling! You’re one of my favorites!

Always LOVE how real you are!!! That is your brand, your vibe, your niche….you created that. No one did it for you!! And not everyone can be real and be successful….that’s the difference. I do feel like the blogger world is getting saturated yet I can’t blame people for trying. But you “OG’s” will survive because you set the tone and have a loyal fan base. I’ve tried to follow new bloggers but so many are just copying you and all the others….not OG.

Keep doing you! And hey if you ever want to shake it up you can always indulge in clean-crafted wine with the rest of us…I’d like to think I’m the OG of the wine world! LOL 😉
