It’s that time of year again.
The fashionable girls & guys of America all make their way to NYC for all the nonsense that is “fashion week.” Whether you are a editor, a photographer, a blogger, a designer, or anyone who is directly affected by the retail industry, chances are you’ve had a conversation, or 2, about the goings-on of NYFW!
I have been attending off and on since September 2011, and boy oh boy, have things changed. I remember the first season I went….all starry eyed with the highest hopes & optimism about the week. It was a whirlwind and I was enthusiastic about ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING. Back then, there wasn’t a sea of bloggers fighting to see & be seen. We were few & far between, and some people still didn’t believe that we deserved a seat at the table. Fast forward 7 years and the pendulum and swung so far the other way. So how does this affect me? Well, it doesn’t….if you don’t let it.
My life will go on if I don’t attend NYFW, or I miss a party because I’m tired, or I choose to go to SoulCycle instead of a fashion show. I don’t expect people to bend over backwards for me, or give a shit about my blog. For the most part, I try to stay in my lane, work hard, & remember that all this could be taken away tomorrow. I recognize that my bottom line is to run a business that does 3 things: 1) Connects with the women who read my blog & follow me on social media, 2) Connects with brands that I believe in, and 3) Pays my bills. My bottom line has never been about how many shows I attend, or “OMG I AM SO BUSY WITH MEETINGS,” or how many followers I have. It’s a business that is truly built on my love of fashion & beauty, paired with readers who love it, too.
And NYFW, well, it’s just an added bonus.
