There’s the old saying: Opposites Attract.

Paula Abdul wrote a hit song about it: “I take 2 steps forward. I take 2 steps back. We come together ’cause opposites attract.”

Bert and Ernie won out our childhood hearts on Sesame Street over this issue.

And fashion continues to ring true in this statement, as well.

When it comes to shopping, getting dressed, and styling, there are 2 words that often make me cringe: sequins and beaded.  I immediately revert to memories of prom dress shopping…standing in the aisles of Whatchamacallit, Terry Costa, Cache, and Jessica McClintock (memory lane, anyone?!) with my mother turning up my nose at every dress that looked like it belonged in the evening gown portion of Miss Teen USA.  And trust me, those are memories that I would rather not be reminded of while planning an outfit.

But when I laid eyes on this beaded skirt at Club Monaco, my styling brain took me to a different place: It told me to pair this sequin number back to something of its polar opposite.  And that’s exactly what I have done with it.  On this particular day, I toughened it up with some tattered denim.  For a girls’ night out I wore it with my favorite grey Vince t-shirt.  And I am certain that, come fall, I will be pairing it with my broken in leather bomber jacket.

These combinations might not be ideal, but Paula Abdul said it best…”It don’t really matter, ’cause we’re perfectly matched.”

What are your favorite “Opposites Attract” combinations to wear?

Ps. My Courtney Kerr x Bauble Bar Collection is still available here! Some pieces have already sold out, so don’t wait to snatch them up!

I think you are the cutest person everrrr. BUT. I don’t think this skirt flatters you the way it should. It makes you look wide as heck, which all your followers know you are not…. But keep the great posts coming!!
