One word that will never be used to describe me is “athletic.”
In 7th grade, my mother encouraged me to try out for the volleyball team….and somehow, by the grace of God, I made the team and was actually chosen to be a starter for the first match of the season (my coach said she thought I would have natural talent because I was a cheerleader, but I think she just liked that I was tall and could intimidate the other team). I was decked out in my whole uniform and ready to roll: First serve comes over the net, and, like a full on wuss, I catch the ball….think: similar to a punt return in football….I don’t know what came over me…perhaps I was scared that the ball would hit my face and ruin my orthodontic work, or maybe I just panicked.
I never played another day of volleyball.
Fast forward to the present and an opportunity to paddle board in Cabo: I was slightly nervous to test out my defunct athleticism, but surprisingly, I was fairly good! Maybe all that pilates and yoga has given me good form and balance?! Either way, it was nice to save myself the embarrassment of falling off of a surfboard in front of 5 bloggers who are loaded with cameras 😉
