Checking In: La Cantera Resort & Spa

When they say that everything’s bigger in Texas, “they” must’ve been staying at the La Cantera Resort & Spa in San Antonio, TX!

Every year, like clockwork, me & Mama Ro take a “mother/daughter trip” where all that’s on the agenda is relax, eat, sleep, shop. We’ve crossed off a handful of cities together: Newport Beach, Las Vegas, Palm Beach, Sacramento, Cabo San Lucas, & New York City. But this year, we wanted to go somewhere in Texas….and as crazy as it may sound, we ACTUALLY WANTED to soak up this Texas heat! We decided on one of our favorite cities in the Lone Star State, San Antonio….and when it came to deciding on a hotel, well, it was a no brainer: La Cantera Resort & Spa! Nestled in the heart of the Texas hill country, La Cantera sits on 550 GORGEOUS acres and checks every box when it comes to luxury: 2 world-class championship golf courses, 10 restaurants, 496 resort rooms, private villas, & the world renowned Loma de Vida spa! And not to brag or anything, but La Cantera was just named as the only Texas resort to the “USA TODAY” 10Best Readers Choice Awards as #3 for Best Pool & #5 for Best Spa!

Yep, me and mom were DEFINITELY in the right place!

Here’s a rundown of our weekend itinerary (basically copy & paste this & you are GUARANTEED to a wonderfully good time!):

Friday:

-Check into La Cantera Resort & Spa Villas…where to my surprise, they hook us up with our very own golf cart to scoot around the property! If you followed me on instastories during this trip, you probably has a good laugh at my golf cart shenanigans! I was LIVING for this “golf cart life” and wouldn’t mind tooling around in one of these regularly! (Note: The golf carts are a complimentary amenity only available to guests staying in the villas!)

-Our first night in San Antonio, we took our time getting settled into our private villa (which might I add was bigger than my very first apartment!) and we get ready for cocktails at Sire & dinner at Sweetfire Kitchen! I ordered the beet salad & the scallops for dinner, but the real treat was when the kitchen was 100% accommodating to my mother’s vegan diet…because if mama ain’t happy, nobody’s happy (am I right or am I right?!)! On our way out, Sire (which is located on the lobby level of the main resort) had live acoustic music! Mom knew a couple of the jams, so we pulled up a rocking chair and enjoyed the show!

Saturday:

-First of all, I’d like to put it on record that I SLEPT LIKE A BABY! Is there anything better sleeping late? Partner that with a super comfortable bed PLUS blackout curtains and I’d say that’s the ultimate way to kickoff your morning! Mom and I scooted back over to the Sweetfire Kitchen to fuel up on their HUGE breakfast buffet! From made-to-order omelettes, to every fruit you can imagine, to DONUTS, BAGELS, & PASTRIES, OH MY…It was delicious! I would be lying if I said I didn’t go back for seconds….& thirds!

-After our big breakfast we headed back to the villas to enjoy the day at the pool! Another feature of staying in the villas is that you get your very own pool that is just for villa guests! The smaller, quieter pool has your very own server, & whenever you get hungry or thirsty, they are right on top of it! (Note: The main resort also has 2 pools: one for families, PLUS a 21+ pool, which features it’s own menu & TURNS UP ON THE WEEKENDS IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!) If there is one thing Mom & I are terribly good at, it’s sitting by a body of water with a book & not talking for hours. I finally finished Tim Ferris’ book, “Tools of Titans,” which I’ve been reading on & off since I was in Mexico back in April!

-Time for dinner! We freshen up & hop in our golf cart to drive to Signature, Inspired by Chef Andrew Weissman, & during our drive, we stumble upon a family of deer frolicking across the golf course! Of course I tried to quickly capture the moment for instastories, but these deer were a little camera shy! As a city girl, I loved this imprompu “nature moment” because I’ve never seen wildlife that close up before! Dinner at Signature is nothing short of perfection: Of course I order ANOTHER beet salad, but tonight I indulge in the gnocchi for my main course, and OH MY GOODNESS, it was worth the calorie splurge!

Swimsuit // Sunglasses // Headwrap // Supergoop! Sunscreen Mist (I use this on my body) // Supergoop! Everyday Sunscreen (I use this on my chest!) // Supergoop! Lip Balm // Supergoop! Defense Refresh Setting Mist (Perfect for touchups on your face or to cool off!) // Supergoop! Oil (My mom likes this because it feels like you’ve got on suntan oil but it actuall has SPF40!) // Estee Lauder DayWear SPF50 (This is what I wear on my face because it doesn’t clog my pores!)

Sunday:

-I legitimately AM NOT EXAGGERATING when I say that we spent THE ENTIRE DAY at the Loma de Vida Spa! It was a slice of heaven, and quite possibly, my favorite part of La Cantera….and it absolutely lives up to its reputation as the #5 Best Spa in “USA TODAY!” While Mom lived her best life in the Solarium (which includes a Herbal Steam, a Himalayan Salt Sauna, & a Vitality Pool) before & after her 90 minute massage, I was treated to the Linda Meredith Oxygen Facial followed by a massage! Although I love a good massage, I must say that the facial was a big treat. A facial is always a great opportunity to learn even more about your skin & talk to the esthetician about the best ways to care for it! Needless to say, MY SKIN WAS GLOWING! Once I was done being pampered, Mom and I were given a private cabana adjacent to the spa pool where we could relax the rest of the day…..AND THAT’S EXATLY WHAT WE DID. From our cabana, we could order lunch from Quenche, the spa’s cafe, and indulge in anything from healthy salads, to refreshing juices or smoothies, acai bowls, or even a cocktail, or 2!

Monday:

-It’s somewhat heartbreaking to say that this ultimate relaxing vacation is almost over, but I guess all good things must come to an end, right? Our last morning, we hop in the golf cart one last time to grab some coffee, then we spend our final 2 hours back at the Loma de Vida Spa (AGAIN!) enjoying all their amenities. Since yesterday was primarily centered around spa, sleep, & that fabulous cabana, today we scooped up day passes (only 40 bucks for hotel guests!) & took advantage of the fitness facility & more of the pool!

I think it’s safe to say that I will 100% be back to La Cantera Resort & Spa! Whether you are on business, with your family & kiddos, enjoying a romantic weekend getaway, or having a girls’ trip like we did, La Cantera gives you every reason to relax, unwind, & recharge!

*Even though our weekend at La Cantera Resort & Spa was complimentary, all of these opinions are my own & I cannot wait to stay there again!
